Bordetella (pertussis/parapertussis)
INTRODUCTION
Whooping-cough is a highly contagious respiratory illness caused by the gram-negative bacterial pathogen Bordetella pertussis (Cherry, 2004). Among the nine species of Bordetella identified today, only three additional members (B.parapertussis, B.holmesii, B.bronchiseptica) have been associated with respiratory infections in humans and others mammals.
