The American Society for Microbiology is the oldest and largest single life science membership organization in the world. Membership has grown from 59 scientists in 1899 to over 42,000 members today located throughout the world. ASM represents 25 disciplines of microbiological specialization plus a division for microbiology educators.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recognized as the lead federal agency for protecting the health and safety of people - at home and abroad, providing credible information to enhance health decisions, and promoting health through strong partnerships.

EDMA (the European Diagnostic Manufacturers Association) is the trade association that represents the in vitro diagnostics (medical testing) industry active in Europe.

Departments and units are introduced and provide an overview on their scientific work. Additional information on many issues of Public Health is available at the respective German internet sections.
